2M Black
The 2M Black series is the flagship of Ortofon's moving magnet cartridges
The 2M Black cartridge uses a Shibata diamond needle, the same diamond used in the acclaimed MC Jubilee. The diamond has a slender structure, a smooth profile, and an extremely wide contact surface with the groove walls, capable of reproducing musical details in all vocal ranges, including, of course, the highest frequency groove information.
The 2M Black cartridge body is manufactured from the newly developed Lexan DMX piano black material, a revolutionary new material that both guarantees high strength and eliminates unwanted resonances.
The 2M Black uses a specially upgraded audio engine with split pole pins and silver plated copper wire.
The cartridge design optimizes size and weight for easy installation on the most common turntables. The 2M series is compatible with a wide variety of playback systems and preamplifiers.

The masterpiece of ORTOFON's high wind MM cartridge is finally here. Premium cartridges commemorating Beethoven's 250th anniversary
The great composer Ludwig van Beethoven celebrates his 250th birthday in 2020. His influence on the history of human music is immeasurable and is also known as "Rakusei" in Japan due to its excellence. To mark this anniversary, Ortofon is pleased to announce the premium model MM cartridge 2M Black LVB 250 named after the Holy Spirit.
The 2M Black LVB 250 is based on Ortofon's flagship 2M Black MM cartridge series. The solid diamond Shibata needle uses sterling silver plated high-purity copper wire coil, it has a very high resolution and a wide range of application, suitable for the flagship product of the 2M series, just like the embodiment of Hi-Fi. To surpass the 2M Black, the LVB 250 is the first in Ortofon history to use boron for the MM-type cantilever, also a newly developed shock-absorbing rubber. As a result, transient characteristics (speed of rise and fall of sound) similar to high-end MC cassettes are obtained. The sound is fast and natural enough to overturn the sound concept of MM cassette tapes. Of course, the specialisation in this unit is not limited to classical music. With its overwhelming resolution, range and dynamics and speed of sound, it only picks up the music while maintaining the tone that composers and performers are looking for. Introducing the ultimate MM cartridge for bearing name "Rakusei".
I. Ortofon's first commemorative MM cartridge, a high-quality collectible cartridge
When designing a cartridge and forming a sound image, choosing the material of the cantilever is a very important process that affects the product's specification and tone. Ortofon has paid attention to this from the beginning, using not only the commonly used aluminum material, but also ruby, sapphire, beryllium, boron, and even solid single crystal diamond, which have extremely fast sound conduction speeds and can be used to simulate sound. Keep going to the limit. 2M Black LVB 250 uses boron, which is second only to diamond in conduction speed and is the second highest boron in the history of our MM toner cartridges, regardless of cost. Boron is the right material for the LVB 250 sound, and even with the cost, I can't think of a compromise.
II. Cultivated unique stylus retention technology in high-end models
Ortofon's proprietary technology found in high-end models such as the MC Anna, MC Xpression and Cadenza Black is used to secure the solid diamond Shibata needle to the boron cantilever. Typically, when attaching a stylus tip to a cantilever made of a hard material such as boron or gemstone, a hole or guide groove is formed in the tip of the cantilever and the stylus tip is inserted and secured there. In Ortofon's boron cantilevers, on the other hand, both ends are done in a very high-precision vertical plane (relative to the rod-like part of the cantilever) and the stylus tip is fixed directly in this plane. As a result, the error of the fixed angle of the stylus tip is greatly reduced, which greatly contributes to the balance of the left and right channels and the high precision of the tracking angle.
III. Specially developed damping rubber with strict quality control
As the cantilever material was changed, the mix ratio of the damping rubber used in 2M Black to the compound material was evaluated and it was newly developed for LVB. In this shock-absorbing rubber, nanoscale ultrafine carbon fine particles (carbon nanofillers) called multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are newly mixed to make the cantilever easier to move, taking care to maximize each damping properties of rubber.
The damper rubber is a very important part, it supports the cantilever and the generator coil as the vibration box system, and its mass has a great influence on the tone and life of the vibration box. Therefore, Ortofon produces 100% of the cartridge damping rubber in-house under extremely strict quality control, using the purpose of the cartridge, the flexibility value of the design, the material of the cantilever and each we will produce the most suitable for the sound image of the model shock-absorbing rubber. Various rubber materials and viscosity-adjusting mixtures are used in the manufacture of shock-absorbing rubber, such as the above-mentioned MWCNTs, but in fact, the materials used, the mixing ratio and the process are company secrets. Furthermore, it has been updated frequently at times like this by reflecting the knowledge gained by adopting new materials and developing new models, and it remains at the forefront of development.
Even in the 21st century, analog cartridges have unknown possibilities, and there are still harbingers of further development. With the development of the LVB 250, we are acutely aware of this and are delighted with it, and have inspired us to develop more new products. It is the best masterpiece of the Ortofon MM cartridge and I recommend it with confidence not only to MM cartridges but also to MC cartridge users.
*2 The M Black LVB 250 is an MM-type cartridge, and the user can replace the Stylus (tip unit) parts mounted on the body. Plus, since the body is compatible with the machine's original 2M Black, if you're already using a 2M Black or Bronze, you can easily upgrade by swapping out the stylus.
