This is not even a contender when compared to a five-year old Thermapen. HET-F001 takes 4 secs to read temp of ice water bath to be 35.7⁰F, and full eleven seconds before it settles at 30.8⁰F. Way too long to take a good reading when grilling steaks. It's just impossible to hold you hand over red-hot charcoals for that long. However, it's cheap and good enough for less precise tasks, such as measuring water temperature when fishing. The switch to Celsius didn't work right out the box due to factory assembly issues. I fixed it by slightly enlarging the opening for the switch with an exacto knife. Overall construction is insufficient to be used hygienically in a food preparation environment. Do not submerge the thermometer or wash it under a stream of water!
